We have the opposite problem to your department. Our service is trying to put more on the trucks rather than having specialists appliances. We have road crash tools , hazmat gear and all the other tools that you would use.We are trying to push for specialist appliances for the towns that can support it but it tends to fall on deaf ears.
I think it is a good idea to carry some rescue tools on your truck but you need to carry the most equipment for the job. So you need the most suitable equipment for structure fires on a pumper etc.
From what you describe it seems your truck is a perfect all round appliance that can deal with any situation. I guess it depends on the crews you have available as to the amount of specialist appliances you can have. We are a volunteer service so we don't have the luxury of crews so we need to fit as much on the truck as we need to deal with all jobs(this applies to the small towns my comment above applies to the large towns that have available crews.)
This information may be of no use to you but you need to think about the crew you have available as to the amount of specialist appliances you have.
