Angry Anyone else having any problems?

Here's my problem and I'm hoping that if anyone else is having this problem that they can help me out. I'm a volie here in West Virginia and I just recently joined the department. Well for anyone who doesn't live in West Virginia I'll let you in on a little secret, WV doesn't provide FF1 classes that much. Since I joined the department in December I have yet to be informed of a FF1 class in my area. No body in the department knows of when one is coming up. Now if my department is just dumb and doesn't know of when any are coming, somebody let me know okay? If any one knows how I can find out when and where some FF1 classes are let me know okay? Oh, my area is Capon Bridge, we are about half an hour east of Romney, and half an hour west of Winchester, VA.

Go to Winchester. They are constantly having classes. Big School in the Spring (may have already missed it) and one in the fall too. There is a Captain there, Frank Wright(City of Winchester)...or...Call Larry Oliver at Frederick County Fire in Virginia. He is their Training Officer. Tell him Stan told you to call.

My suggestion is go to Virginia and get the certification and then apply for National Certification through the Professional Qualifications Board. It only cost $15.00. Then you have it...

You might also try contacting the West Virginia University extension service. I went to WVU and I believe they are involved with fire fighter training (at least they were when I was there 20 years ago!). Good luck, there is nothing more frustrating then joining a fire company and having to wait forever for training.

Just an update, my department is having us sign up for some classes that they are going to be offering there. FF1 and FF2 are in that block of classes. What it looks like to me (seeing as how I havn't asked anyone) is that they are hiring trainers to come out and help train us. Either that or our trainers are more trained than I thought. So thanks for the ideas.
