Unhappy Bad News or No News?

Man..............one look at the FH Home Page, and it seems like the World is ending. This is a site for Firefighters, there has to be something decent that has transpired? The Home Page reads like an Obit, or a Nostrodamas ad, nothing on it good but fancy flunky stickers, new invention tools, and BS along those lines.
If anyone out there has experienced something neat-cool-good post it please. This place has been running morbid and if not for Gonzo's new group........it almost sux.

I work tommorrow and can't wait to get to the station. Hope I feel that way until the day I retire. Thsi is and will continue to be the best job in the world, no matter how hard we try to screw it up.

Everything has it's peaks and valleys. This just happens to be a time when the low road prevails. This too shall pass.

    Dateline: The United States

Over 2 million firefighters, paid and volunteer, were on call yesterday, with some having calls and some not. All of these returned home to their spouses, children, and pets without a mark on them.

They were all the more joyous in doing so because they knew that some others have been lost.

Cool A little levity for FDNYRR

Envision this in a 4/4 blues format.

    I woke up this mornin'
    after a quiet night
    and that meant the people
    were doin' all right
    we had two medicals
    that were minor and slight
and a cellar pump job was the highlight of the night

    That's the way it is
No one else can fill our shoes
for a quiet night at the station
    never gives us the blues.....

    although we pay
    for those quiet nights
with alarms of fire and medicals
    that give us the frights
    it's a dirty job
    but someone's gotta do it
    and to the mutt attitude
    ya gotta say screw it

    That's the way it is
no one else can fill our shoes
    quiet or busy
    A Jake ain't got time
    to sing the blues

    It's honor and tradition
    crawlin' down a smoky hall
    to crusty old jake
    it's called havin' a ball
    The truckies are venting
    the roof just in time
and the word is the rescue
    saved a family of nine

    That's the way it is
I wish you could be in my shoes
    quiet or busy
a Jake has no time for the blues....

    Back at the firehouse
cleanin' the truck and our gear
pourin' a cup of coffee and wishing it was a cold beer
    the tones go off
    for the umpteenth time tonight
I know that my bunkroom bed
    will be a welcome sight

    That's the way it is
no one else can fill our shoes
    because quiet or busy
    A Jake ain't got time
    to sing the blues

It's the best job in the world
until you hafta go to work
    fightin' a raging fire
or dealing with a mutt jerk
I'd like to think of us
    as one big family
I's something that John and Jane Q. Public
will never be able to see

    That's the way it is
looking at the world from my shoes
    quiet or busy
    A Jake ain't got time
    to sing the blues

    Another day another night
    another overtime tour
    not knowing what will happen
when we go out the door
we may be fighting a fire
    or shopping for a meal
    the brotherhood of firefighters
is the only thing that's real

    That's the way it is
doing the job that we love
with the guidance of our Fallen Brothers
And the Grace of God above.....

    Default A different outlook

I got fussed at once by my better half for this, and after thinking about it, it's true. I had made a comment about the night had been boring, we'd had no calls. And she had asked me why was that a bad thing?
So, in perspective, it's true. A boring night for us, sitting in the station, reading our manuals, cleaning, drills, etc., means that nobody has their house burning, nobody wrecked their cars, etc. Then we go home to our loved ones the next day. A boring night for us maybe, but good for our community.
