    Default D.C. in October

Myself and 2 friends from North West IN will be going to D.C. in Oct. for the NFFF Memorial Weekend. Any of the brothers from the region going to be there? Maybe we could have a meeting of some of the I.A.C.O.J. in person!

    Any thoughts?

I'm going to try like hell to be there. Hopefully I'll be able to get away.
It would be great if we could all get together, but I don't know that DC is ready for this group!

    Talking WOO HOO!

I can see it now, all of us gathered around the bar, with pints of guinness raised, toasting "May the wind always be at your back and the sun in your face!". Then after we drain our glasses we can begin to REALLY enjoy ourselves. It was pandelirium and then all he** broke loose!!

    I SAID WOO HOO!!!!

Default Hoping to Make it to DC

Don't quite know if I'm crusty enough for this crowd, but I'm going to try to make it to DC. I'll probably drive. If I go, anyone from mid & south Ohio's welcome to ride with me.

    Default Staff Meeting

    Uh Wayne,

Maybe we could have a BMI staff meeting and get some of these items worked out...

    Pagers,
    stun guns,
    bang sticks,

I'll have to check with Motown on the rest.....

Seriously, I will try and make it, could be scary....

Sounds cool...and if we run into any of theose "mutts" fron the Westover Baptist Church, I think that we can have an "attitude adjustment session"....

Since I live only an hour or so from D.C., I'm going to try to get there as well. I'm not sure if my Company is sending a contingent or not, but I'm sure the career service from Baltimore County will be represented. If enough of the I.A.C.O.J. membership is able to attend, we need to designate a meeting place and time so that we can find each other. I imagine that it'll be a bit of a zoo with a huge attendance, so finding individuals will be a challenge, to say the least.

CJ, since you live so close, would you be willing to be the advance party? We will need a bar (Irish) where they serve Guiness (THE RIGHT WAY DANG IT), and maybe have bagpipes!

I will be able to get guys w/ pipes there if I know where to send them. We all usually go to The Ott House in Emittsburg,MD, just down from Vigilant Hose Co. We don't know where to have our Saturday night Wake for all the fallen that we have every year. We drink massive quantities of Guiness, the guys and gals from Mesa Fire and elsewhere play the pipes and drums(PIPERS PIPE THE DRUMS!)(GOD I LOVE THAT!!) and a good time is had by all!

ANYONE with information on the BEST FD bar in DC, please help!!

Default I'll see what I can do....

I'll scout around and see what I can dig up. I live about 2.5 miles away from an "Irish" pub that serves Guiness just like I had it when I visited the Emerald Isle. The bar was built in Ireland and shipped to the States and the Guiness taps are driven by carbon dioxide instead of air. They would probably even accomodate bagpipers. Unfortunately, it's a little out of the way of the MCI Center. Perhaps another time.

    Default Irish Bars in DC

Wayne, Here is a list of watering holes sent to me by the Firefighters Emerald Society of DC. Hope this helps.

The Dubliner - North Capital and F st. N.W.
The Irish Times - North Capital and F st. N.W.
    The Irish Channel - 5th and H st. N.W.
Four Provinces - 3400 blk of Connecticut Ave. (uptown)

There are others in the area as well. The four above have websites that can be viewed. I found the sites using "google".

Hey Mel, I'd be careful with the offers of rounds in this forum. From what I've seen in these threads, your bank account will take a huge hit.

Hey, Thanks for pointing that out...Thankfully, I am gamefully employed as a fulltime nurse, so to all the guys from OHIO and CJ( for kindly reminding me of my finacial committment)the first round is on ME!!! If I had to rely on my parttime medic job ,I wouldnt be able to afford my own drinks!!But as an Irish women I always survive, some how!!!!

I hope that we can deliver the 100,000 FF's for the honor guard. If everyone who can make it goes, we should be able to exceed that mark. I hope to see all of you there!!

    Post FYI

I'm sure a lot of you know this already, but the National Fallen Firefightes Foundation has a web site, www.firehero.org, where they have information on the Weekend and activities. Hopefully, they will have a chance to post more detailed information in the future. Traffic around D.C. is always a nightmare, so I would advise out of towners to get a good map of the Metro System and use that to get around. If I can make it, I'll park at one of the outlying suburban stations and use Metro to get to the event. This should save a lot of hassle. Go to www.wmata.com for more information.
