    Default Universal Fitting?? Need Help!!

My department is currently putting together standpipe bags for our district which is long overdue, but here is the problem: Most of the biuldings use different threads!!

Rather than carry several different adapters/fittings, does anyone know of a "universal" adapter that can be purchased. I thought that I saw one once in Darley or one of those catalogs.....Help Please!!!

I've seen the fitting that you are probably thinking of. The one I saw was a 2 1/2" fitting. It had little spring loaded "nubs" the entire circumference of the inside of the fitting. It pushed on and then locked in place. You unscrewed it normally once locked on. No idea where to get it though.

We have two of these old brass adapters sitting around the station which were used for hydrant hook-ups, sometimes if you didn't push the adpater on straight it would pop off. As for looking for something like it the brand name of a similar adapter out there is "Zip-Nut" the threaded part of the adapter is segmented "pie-shaped" so you get the full 360 degree contact not like the about one where you only got maybe 50% contact....

WWW.KOCHECK.COM They just announced a universal adapter that I saw at FDIC. Pretty neat. This may be what you want or need. If not call them. They did a special for me.

Wouldnt it be better to inforce the fire codes and mandate that all standpipes etc conform to your standards. Our dept recently under the the fire codes mandated all fd connections be 5"storz fittings with a swivel.

    http://www.kochek.com/

Minor correction on the Kochek URL.

Website isn't very complete, so give them a call if you're looking for something. Very good shop. A completely biased opinion since they're from our neck of the woods and we test stuff for them every so often

I think I would be very careful in using any type of "universal" adapter. Simple reason being depending on what floor (AKA how high) you are pumping, you could be pushing a considerable amount of pressure. Using something other than the truly correct thread could spell disaster.

I think WRENCH has the best advice... Get your codes people to enforce a standard thread cut/adapter for the FD connections.
