    Default Firefighters charged

I'm at a loss for words. Firefighters...public servants, everyday heroes...held in high esteem by the public. Now these senseless acts....

    Firefighters charged with animal cruelty
CHENANGO BRIDGE, N.Y. (AP) - Two volunteer firefighters accused
of bludgeoning four cats to death face animal cruelty charges,
    state police said Saturday.
Daniel J. Williams, 27, and William R. Terrell, 32, were each
charged Friday with four felony counts of aggravated cruelty to
    animals.
A cat and three kittens were recently found dead near an
abandoned building near the Chenango Bridge Fire Co., Sgt. John
Lynch told The Press & Sun-Bulletin in Binghamton. It was believed
the firefighters went into the building and smashed the heads of
the cats with hammers, Lynch said.
Williams is also a paid member of Endicott's fire department.
Endicott Fire Marshal Thomas Murphy and village Mayor Michael E.
Colella said they were unaware that Williams had been charged.
"Until we can review the charges and have an opportunity to
talk to firefighter Williams, it's premature to say what actions we
may or may not take," Murphy said. "I haven't seen what the guy
did, but this doesn't sound like good news."

As an animal lover (we have two dogs, a cat and a gecko at the "casa de Gonzo") I am appalled that anyone would do this. Most people who abuse animals also have deeper psychological problems....that's why we need psych screening and background checks!

That is truly a disturbing article. Those men have severe issues IMO. Studies have shown that most serial killers start out with cruelty to animals and progress from there.

    Unhappy Beyond MUTT!!

I can't even begin to think what possible reason they could have had. Doesn't really matter, they are just sick.

Unfortunately they are firefighters, so it will get more press than if they were say,.....auto mechanics. If a firefighter does something wrong it is deemed more newsworthy because it is rare for a firefighter to do this type of thing. We can only hope that they will be tried quickly so that the story will have closure and go away, for the sake of the fire service.

Not posing a defense here, but the article does not indicate that there were actual witnesses to this event? Is there something in the background that isn't shown here? There may be more to this one than meets the eye.

However, Wayne has hit it square on: when a Firefigher or police officer does something wrong, its big news. If Johnny Q does something wrong, like this story and it gets reported, it was probably a slow day in the news.

I have a multi cat/dog family and if these guys did what was reported, you can bet I ain't happy about it. If they had nothing to do with the actual events, then this will be another one of those stories that will sit in the closet until another time.

    Default fu(k!ng COWARDLY MUTTS!!!!

As a owner of 4 fabulous and loving Rat Terriers, and as a kid 2 siamese cats whom I still miss, this literally makes me sick to my stomach and very upset. I have always advocated higher degree felonies for animal abusers. Animals are the utmost innocent and defensless living creatures. I was thinking the same thing Lady, as a former cop we always took notice of kids and teenagers who mutilated and killed animals unprovoked. If they were in my fire department, the cops would be the last thing they had to worry about. There would be plenty of us lining up to kick their *****e$. I'm not one to sit idley by and here or see that sort of thing. I'd definately would give them a grade A, wipin ground with their *****, marine corps whoopin. Plus for us urban guys, and in my firehouse, we need the cats to assist in pest control.

The above is my opinion and rage only. It doesn't reflect that of any dept/agency I work for, deal with, a member of, or how nice of a person I really am.

    Angry Updated Info

CHENANGO BRIDGE, N.Y. (AP) - Two former volunteer firefighters
were indicted on a felony charge of cruelty to animals for killing
    four cats, authorities said.
William R. Terrell, 32, and Daniel J. Williams, 28, were
indicted Wednesday also on a misdemeanor charge of overdriving or
torturing animals, said Cheryl A. Mancini, assistant district
    attorney in Broome County.
The cat and three kittens were found dead near an abandoned
building near the Chenango Bridge Fire Co. in June, police said. It
was believed the men went into the building and smashed the heads
of the cats with hammers, authorities said.
The two suspects, of Chenango, could face up to a year in jail
    if convicted, Mancini said.

    Another wire story:

    Ex-firefighters indicted in kitten killings

(Chenango Bridge) -- Two former Binghamton-area volunteer
firefighters have been indicted on animal cruelty charges.
Authorities say 28-year-old Daniel Williams and 32-year-old
William Terrell are accused of bludgeoning four kittens in an old
    fire station.
They allegedly used a hammer and physical pressure to kill the
kittens on a Sunday afternoon last June.
A Broome County prosecutor says the men were indicted on felony
cruelty counts and on misdemeanor charges of torturing animals.
Investigators haven't determined a motive in the killings.
The prosecutor says her office has received many calls from
animal lovers around the U-S expressing concern about the case.
Although the two men were removed from a volunteer fire
department after their arrests, authorities say Williams is
believed to be still working as a paid firefighter in the village
    of Endicott, near Binghamton.

I guess I am on the other end of the spectrum.
I hate cats, but love dogs.
I don't hate cats enough to crush their little skulls
with a hammer though. That is disgusting, and inhumane.
At least use a lawn mower. JUST KIDDING don't shoot.

All it says is they are believed to have done this.

If indeed they did it 1 year I think is a little to easy.
    How about 20.

    Angry Guilty Pleas-Lesser Charges

Two men plead guilty to lesser charges in cat deaths

(Chenango-AP) -- Two former volunteer firefighters accused of
bludgeoning four cats to death have pleaded guilty to reduced
    charges.
Twenty-eight-year-old Daniel Williams and 35-year-old William
Terrell, both of Chenango, will serve no time in jail or on
    probation.
Terrell pleaded guilty to cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor.
Williams pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, a violation.
Both received a 200-dollar fine and 100 hours of community
    service.
The men were accused of killing a cat and her three kittens with
hammers at the old Chenango Bridge fire station, 60 miles southeast
    of Syracuse.
They were suspended by the fire company in June and later
charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
It's unclear if they could resume their volunteer positions.
Williams has retained his position as a paid firefighter with the
    Endicott Fire Department.

Now the complete pieces of human garbage are no longer firefighters, they certainly don't have the right to use the title, why does the press insist on bringing it up. Calling them ex-firefighters, like 1835Wayne and MalahatTwo7 said gets more press I suppose
