When on scene of a brush fire, say 1500 acres, whos in charge? Is it your chief, or does an emergency management coordintor assume IC or what?

NJFFS_A16...if you were in Florida you would not be in charge...Florida Forestry is.

I am not exactly sure how the law is, but most of the time the Fire Chief or ranking fire officer is in charge and then when Forestry arrives they take over. Granted, both agencies "should" work together to reach a common goal.

In a lot of cases, down here anyway... The Forestry handles it with help of other contract agencies such as South West Florida Water Management and send the fire department home or just utilizes their tankers as they did recently with a "Muck Fire" in our first due.
