Please be aware of the following issue:
WASHINGTON (AP) - In-Sink-Erator is recalling about 252,000
half-gallon instant hot water dispensers because the units can leak
and cause fires.
Racine, Wis.-based In-Sink-Erator voluntarily recalled the
dispensers after getting three reports of holes in their electrical
insulation or outer cover, the Consumer Product Safety Commission
One hole caused a kitchen fire resulting in nearly $7,000 in
damages, though no one was injured, the commission said.
The safety commission said consumers should unplug their hot
water dispensers, check the serial number and call the company if
their dispenser is part of the recall. Callers will receive a
replacement insulation shield.
The dispensers have a capacity of a half-gallon and were sold
under various brand names, including In-Sink-Erator, ISE, Steamin'
Hot, Emerson, Dayton, ACE, Kenmore and Kohler. The serial number is
printed on a plate attached to the metal holding tank. The recalled
dispensers have serial numbers 999-10 or numbers that fall between
1000 and 3084000. Some serial numbers begin with two letters.
Plumbers, building contractors, home centers and hardware stores
sold the instant hot water dispensers from January 1972 to December
1996 for between $100 and $250.
For information, call In-Sink-Erator at 1-800-295-8727 from 8
a.m. to 8 p.m. EDT weekdays.
