    Man breaks conditions, jailed

Times Colonist (Victoria) Friday, June 28, 2002

Matthew Steven Holland, 24, has been sent to jail after his conditional sentence was revoked.

Holland was given a two-year jail sentence April 5 for manslaughter in the death of a man outside a Duncan nightclub.

Holland punched Ian Gorter, 28, outside a bar on Feb. 26, 2000. Gorter was knocked to the ground, where he smashed his head on concrete. He died on March 3, 2000.

Provincial court Judge Alan Filmer told Holland at his sentencing that he could serve his two-year term at home provided he abided by strict conditions, including abstaining from consumption of alcohol and obeying a curfew.

Holland was arrested last month after he was seen at a Victoria restaurant drinking alcohol. He is expected to serve the remainder of his sentence in custody.
