In the Post 9/11 era, FF's face different threats and challenges. The job may never be the same.
(New York-AP) -- The Fire Department of New York will equip its
personnel with radiation detectors that could be used in a
terrorist attack or accident involving radioactive materials.
The Daily News reports that about 300 firefighters have been
trained to use the handheld, 350-dollar devices. They were donated
to the department by a law-enforcement support group.
The Centurion Foundation donated 500 detectors, enough to equip
every New York firehouse.

This makes for a sad day at the office, to read something like this. Not that FDNY is getting the tools and the training, but that it is felt that there is a requirement to do so. That is the sad part.
RadHaz detectors are more commonly associated with army geeks (I am one such Geek) running around in the woods with rifles and small hand bombs. Not in the streets of your Home Town.
It is with a deep heart that I hope and wish that the crews who use these detectors in the streets find nothing, and that their indicent scenes stays RADHAZ SAFE!! Play safe, stay safe.If you don't do it RIGHT today, when will you have time to do it over? (Hall of Fame basketball player/coach John Wooden)
