    Unhappy NJ Urban Legend Passes

Frank Scardo, 85, of Oakland, NJ passed away Thursday, July 18, 2002. He was a warden for the NJ Forest Fire Service for 43 years before retiring in 1987. He was a recipient of the Theodore Roosevelt award. He was a member of the SPCA.

An urban legend of some sorts, Frank was instrumental in developing the Search and Rescue movement in northern NJ. Tales of rodeos, encounters with the Ku Klux Klan, meetings with movie stars and adventures with wild animals were among the stories told by Frank....and no one knows how much was true...or how much was myth!

I worked with Frank starting in 1970 and much of the knowledge I possess in regards to wildland firefighting...I owe to his vast experience. He shall be missed. Rest in peace Frank!

Sorry to hear of Franks passing,I had met Frank,Tommy Philhower,Cliff
    Rushing,John Pryhoski,Bobby Wolff,back in the mid 70's,when I was on
A7,A10,A14's Fire Crews.Morris,Sussex, and Warren Counties.
Do you know where any of these guys are today?
I know that Skip Danielson is in charge of Northstar,I belive I heard
that Tommy died a few years back.
    I won't be wronged,I won't be insulted,
and I won't be laid a hand on.
I don't do these things to other people
and I require the same from them.
