And the view of the interior:

Note the lack of space between seats and steering wheel, and the shifter rotated 45 degrees clockwise

Car had been airborne long enough to earn a pilots license, probably over 100' and clipped a tree 12' above the ground 40' away from final impact. After wrapping around a tree, it slid down a couple feet to rest on the ground.

The the passenger door popped open and we found the driver standing, dazed, next to his vehicle. Due mechanism of injury and confused mental status patient was transported to our local hospital were the ambulance met a helicopter for transport to a level 1 trauma center.

One lucky guy who was the exception to the rule, always wear your seatbelts! Had he been wearing them, we probably would've had a difficult body removal to deal with.

    Daaaang!

It's these "exceptions to the rule" that my mother-in-law uses as an excuse not to wear her seatbelt.

She can site several "examples" of people who are alive because they didn't wear their seatbelts. I'd like to point out to her how unlikely it would be for her to be killed in a MVA if she just never got into a car....

That would make the five miles to my house from hers a much longer trip.....hmmmm....I think I just had an idea....

Silver City- 5 miles to the mother-in-law! Have you been involved in an accident when not wearing a seat belt and suffered a head injury?

    That's way too close!

Yikes! I 'd say the dude is lucky (this time) I wonder if he'll wear a belt once he recovers. I'd say he had only one ticket for a "no seatbelt MVA". Thanks for the photo.

FFEMT19- The photo of your MVA shows a set of Holmatro spreaders in them.

What are they doing there? Are they sitting on the ground or are they actually doing something?

I'll post a couple of more pics of the car vs tree when I get a minute. My info is second-hand but I'll tell you what I know.

A young male was the sole occupant of this vehicle and was found alert and oriented with his lower legs pinned and laying with his head near the passenger's side door. Two sets of tools were in use (and another in reserve) to remove the roof and tunnel down to the bottom of this mess with spreaders to get him loose. Total extrication time was well over an hour. I believe the patient was airlifted as a precaution because of the extent of the damage and the prolonged extrication but his injuries were relatively minor. I was also told that speed was a factor but alcohol was not.

    One lucky kid.

Usually when a driver survives something like this he's drunk as a skunk and there's a couple of bodies in the wreckage. Fortunately this was the exception.

The spreader is left there because the driver was DOA so we couldn't extricate him until we get the go from the local police autorities.
He was pinned with his feet between the doo and the tree and the engine.
