Check out the Connecticut Fire Academy!!! It's one of the nation's top academy's, the latest technology. It's a ten week live in program with dorms on site. They have cadets from all over the U.S. and Canada. You will walk away with firefighter I & II, haz-mat operational, rope rescue, confined space, vehicle extrication, and a boat load more. The instructers are from the area's bigest city's - like Hartford, New Haven, FDNY, Bridgeport, Springfield MA, Waterbury, just to name a few. Give them a call. www.ct.govIAFF member, Love this job! Just to corroborate Keith's post...
People really do come from all over North America to go there. This past June, I was taking classes there during their "June Fire School". There were at least 4 people that I know of from British Columbia that were there for that week and just finished the 10 week recruit program.

It is a known fact that California is one of the
main leaders when it comes to progressive Fire
Service. Yes, it is true, dont fight me on the issue.
We have the most ISO Class 1 departments here.
Anyways- Santa Ana College in Orange County, CA
is very well known. Here is some background on them-
-Our graduates have attained firefighter positions in many departments throughout the United States and around the world.
-First Accredited Regional Fire Academy in California. Who
else has accreditation?
I think you are set on your home state of Michigan, but
here is the link for you-

If you are looking for a fire academy, look at the city just to your west. Schoolcraft college holds its fire academy at its radcliff center, in Garden City. Many full time departments send their new hires there, and they have lots of advanced courses, and even a two year degree program. Call schoolcraft college information, and ask about the fire academy. They'll point you in the right direction.
It's a good program (I went through it).
Send me a pm if you want more info.
