With the anniversary of 9/11/01 drawing fast upon us, I would like to propose an idea for a tribute to all that lost their lives on that fateful day.
I suggest that on 9/11/02 at dusk that everyone should light 3 candles outside their homes (similar to what was done those first couple of nights after the attack). Each of the candles should be a different color, red, white and blue:
RED: for the NYFD firefighters and EMS workers
BLUE: for the NYPD and PAPD officers, and US Armed Forces Personnel
WHITE: for all the citizens that were lost that day.
I remember how moved I felt driving down the street and seeing all the lit candles in front of all my neighbor's homes. There are no words that can describe the loss and pain of that day, so let our actions speak for us!! Light your candles to show the world we will never forget September 11th, show the survivors that we still are thinking about them and to all that lost loved ones that we still grieve with them!!
Please, pass this message on to all your friends and let's see those candles burning bright in memory and honor of all on September 11th, 2002.

LoriO:
Good idea - I had a similar one last week with the thought of a single red light and a single blue light displayed (candles aren't real practical out here where the wind doesn't blow for about an hour each year!).
I think your idea including the white is even better!
What's everyone else think? I believe I'll put 'em up on the 11th.

Do different colored candles actually burn in color? I would guess it would just look like 3 flames of the same white/yellow.
But I do like the idea behind it ......... how do we include the Pentagon and others? The Heroes' Cross, helping to keep the promise .......... to 'never forget'. Dedicated to the 343 FDNY heroes, donated to their families. God Bless.

Ted1, The light from the flame on the candle as it burns will illuminate the wax and you can see the colors that they are.
As for your Pentagon question I did think of about that after I made the initial post and I was going to go back and edit it to list armed forces personnel under the blue candle, after all they are our National peacekeepers/police force.
Please, feel free to make a copy of the original post and email it out, help me get the word out!!!!All gave some, Some gave all. There is no higher honor than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest deed.".
