Approximately 10:00 A.M. yesterday (Sunday) a small experimental plane carrying 2 people crashed in the Port of Tampa. The plane was a single engine aircraft and had just taken off from an airport on Davis Island. The pilot was apparantly attempting to land again and missed the runway and appeared to be making a U-Turn for another attempt. The plane crashed into the concrete dry dock area of the Tampa Bay Port Authority and burned on impact, killing both passengers. Witnesses said the plane barely missed a luxury cruise liner in it's path as well as the fuel storage tanks in the Port of Tampa. A Tampa Fire Department spokesman said nothing else was damaged and that the NTSB had already arrived to investigate.
