    Default Satellite rigs? FDNY? Info?

Hey everyone, I was just curious as to if anyone, particulary FDNY guys, could fill me in on what exactly the "Satellite" units are used for? What is there purpose?? Are they used anywhere else?
    Thanks!

I hope I am not falling on my sword by answering this -- I know we have some of the brothers from the FDNY that are on the Forums....

Here goes... There are 6 engine companies in the FDNY that operate 2000 GPM pumpers, and these are the engine companies that you will find the satellites at.
Satellites have 5 inch hose, and are used to supply 'Large Water' operations.

I can find out more -- but I would have to dig a little deeper. Could the FDNY members of the forums please correct me if I am wrong.
    thanks

This is because I want to do the brothers in the FDNY justice.

I also don't want E40FDNYL35 to look down on me....

There are 6 Satellite Units -
    Manhattan - Engine 9, Satellite 1
    Da Bronx - Engine 72, Satellite 2
    Brooklyn - Engine 284, Satellite 3
    - Engine 207, Satellite 6
    Queens - Engine 324, Satellite 4
Staten Isl- Engine 159, Satellite 5

Capabilities include - supplying manifolds, long distance water delivery using LDH (5 inch) [Largest hose carried on FDNY engines is 3.5 inch - in the left most section of the hosebed], relaying water from fireboats or pumpers at draft, drafting water at waterfront operations.

-- this info is from James Griffiths book- and from WNYF back issues.
