    Cool Back once more

Well...since it's been a while, I figure I'll reintroduce myself to all. My name's Erik Prager and I'm a Damage Controlman (firefighter) with the US Navy. I'm currently stationed aboard the USS Yorktown(Cg-48) as a firefighter and chemical warfare specialist. Yorktown's Flying Squad is a small group of highly dedicated individuals whose job is to stop the spread of any casualty aboard ship. While we're underway, we have to rely on ourselves, and therefore are probably some of the most highly trained individuals you'll meet. Being a helo-capable platform...4 of us also serve with other members of the ship's crew as members of the Crash and Salvage crew...charged with the duty of fighting any casualty as a result of an aircraft crash and with the rescue of the aircrew. I'm currently in training through the ship to take the National Exam for EMT-B to further increase my abilities and qualifications. The Yorktown is homeported in Pascagoula, MS. I welcome any responses, and look forward to possibly building a network of friends and comrades in arms.

    Hello Sailor

I'm new tothis group too! I'm firefighter with USFS. My best friend is also in the NAVY, He's thinking of becoming a firefighter, i'm trying to encourage him, but I don't know what its like to be a firefighter on a ship. If he follows through, how would he get started when he gets out of the NAVY, does he have start all over?
    Bye, Iris

    Erik,

First of all THANKS for serving for me and my family in the armed forces (US Navy). Greetings from the fire brotherhood too. Use this place as a sounding board and travel to a lot of different forum threads to learn from all the experienced people here.
