    Unhappy Norman, OK Chief

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - Flags are flying at half staff and
firefighters are wearing black bands across their badges to honor
Norman's fire chief, who died after battling cancer.
John Dutch, 59, was admitted to an Oklahoma City hospital on
Friday because of medical complications. He died Monday morning in
his sleep, Norman Fire Marshal Bob Sirpless said.
"Everybody is in a state of shock, it happened so quickly,"
    Sirpless said.
Dutch became chief of the 124-member Norman Fire Department in
1988. He also directed emergency management operations.
He entered the fire service in Las Vegas in 1965 after
graduating from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas with an
associate's degree in fire science technology and fire service
management, and a bachelor's degree in business administration.
Dutch was past president of the Norman Kiwanis Club and past
chapter chairman of the Cleveland County Chapter of the American
    Red Cross.
A funeral is scheduled for Thursday morning at Westside Church
    of Christ in Norman.

    Rest in peace John!
