Oh God...not the movie!

(Honolulu-AP) -- The group Hawaii Citizens for the Separation of
State and Church wants the Honolulu Police Department to abandon
the oath used to swear in new officers.
In a letter to City Corporation Counsel David Arakawa, the
group's president -- Mitchell Kahle -- says the wording of the oath
violates state and federal constitutions because it contains the
phrase "so help me God."
Kahle says legal action will be taken if H-P-D fails to abandon
the oath by close of business Friday.
He says the department should follow the state Constitution,
which spells out an oath of office that doesn't contain the word
"God."
Earlier this month, H-P-D removed a biblical passage and poems
containing religious content from its Web site after Kahle's group
complained.
The group earlier demanded the Honolulu Fire Department recall a
safety guide because it contains a firefighter's prayer that
includes the word "God."

Id say there lucky that there kids and families and communitys are perfect so the only thing they got to worry about in life is a sacred police officers oath and firemans prayer.:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: All they want is there 15 minutes,letem have it let it go on tv then the whole country will see what idiots these people are,people like this are there own worst enemys.:rolleyes:

There is something to be said about that statement:

Personal experience has shown that there is no such thing as an Atheist. When the bombs start flying in your direction, and there isn't much by way of overhead protective cover, you can bet that even the most "devout" atheist will call on some form of God. Either by name or by intent, you can bet on hearing some form of prayer for survival.

However on a slightly different track, the Canadian Forces do recognize that some persons are not religious (or Christian anyway) and have made provisions whereby when we are sworn in. Rather than using the usual "...so help me God.." statement at the end, we use an Affidavit that states: Do you make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing it to be true, and knowing that it is of the same force and effect as if made under oath?


It would seem that there are still persons out there in the world with little else better to do than to reivew Oath's of Alligence protocols and make judgements on them. I think I wish I had that kind of time --- oh wait, I work for the military..... LOL :D

Still the final point here is: there is no such thing as an Atheist in a foxhole, while under fire.

Since they are threatenting legal action: When they testify they can say, "Do you swear the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me .............

You know what I don't understand is that if atheists think that there is no God then that word really has no significance to them. So what's the difference.

If the oath said "So help me Purple dragons" I wouldn't even care (except fo the fact that it would sound completely stupid.

I'd like to see them try that crap with the oath that new recruits say before being sworn into the military.

Malahat I heard a story one time that prooves your point. An athiest as walking trough the woods one day enjoying the scenery that just happened to appear there somehow one day when he came across a big grizzley bear the bear chassed him down and pounced on him and rared his paw back to hit the athiest when the athiest yelled "Dear God help me!!!" at that moment everything stopped and heheard a voice from above and it was God saying "all your life you tried to disproove my existence and now when your about to die you finally call on me?" The atiest acknowledges that God does have a point and then asks "Well could ya atleast make the bear a Christian?" and God said "verywell" with that everything went back to normal and and the bear brought his hand back down and folded hishand and says "Dear God please bless this nuutricious food I am about eat and allow it to nourish my body Amen"

I think that this whole "remove 'God' from everything" movement is getting ridiculas. In my neck of the woods there is a HUGE legal battle going on because seventy-something years ago the builders of the Chester County, Pa. Court House placed a plaque with the ten commandments on it at the entrance. Now this plaque has been in place longer then most of the protesters have been alive, however they feel that it is a violation of their rights.

Now I don't pretend to be the most religious person, but I do believe that there is a common bond amongest all religions. I don't care if you call your Maker Jesus, Budda, Aliah, Jehovah or Ralph, he is still your God.

As for the Atheist, well all I can say is, there are no Atheist in fox holes or multiple alarm fires.

This is my opinion.

Just as a note. I wrote that last reply before I read all the responses, so if I sound like I'm repeating what some of you already stated it was purely unintentional.
