I work for a small department & training opportunities are very limited. Each shift (A,B,C) is comprised of the equivalent of a 3-man engine company. We run 2 people on the ambulance & 1 on the engine. We function as a public safety department, so our police officers are also firefighters with a few also holding EMT certifications. Administration doesn't take much of an inititave to encourage training, and the police officers are FFs because they have to be so there's little motivation from their side for fire training. Those of us dedicated to the fire/EMS division would like to be able to do our own training, either classroom or hands on. Does anyone have a similar problem, & if so, how did you overcome it?
