Man Sentenced For Stealing From Sept. 11 Widow
Volunteer Firefighter Presents Donation, Then Steals It
Posted: 4:26 p.m. EDT September 21, 2002
GOSHEN, N.Y. -- A man convicted of stealing money donated to the widow of a New York City firefighter has been sentenced to the maximum 15 years in prison.
Brian Lynch and three other volunteer firefighters from Scotchtown, N.Y., had presented the woman with a nearly $8,000 donation last October. Her husband was killed in the attack on the World Trade Center.
Authorities say Lynch returned to her home four days later and stole the money. An Orange County jury found Lynch guilty in August of burglary and grand larceny, both felonies.
Lynch stood silent as he was sentenced Friday.

I heard about this story on the news today. I couldn't believe it. I would have never thought that someone doing something good will turn around and do something bad. I can't believe that someone working in the fire service will do something like that. How could they say they want to help people and the community when they do something like this. People like Lynch give fire fighters a bad name. Not just fire fighters but people in general.
