Billings hazardous material crew gets new rig

(Billings-AP) -- The hazardous materials emergency response team
in Billings has a new vehicle to serve the region.
The "Hazmat" team -- featuring 29 firefighters -- is often the
first on the scene after a toxic spill.
The unit already has a fully equipped truck. But they hope the
new vehicle will allow them to serve an even larger area.
Captain Larry Anderson of the Billings Fire Department says most
of the spills they deal with are small and include pesticides and
gasoline spills.
To deal with larger spills -- the unit recently acquired a
trailer that features a compressor to fill air tanks and a
hazardous materials library.
The team hopes to have the vehicle up and running by the end of
this year.
