    Question Home-Made Tools

I was wondering if anyone uses "homemade" tool or equipment.
I know of a department not far from me that makes a bunch of thier own stuff (ie. door props, corner plats for extrication etc.) because they have a frefighter that is a welder and machinist also.

I make my own door wedges, and we have a machinist in our dept. that made a tool to help with elevator rescues.

My dept has always built things, they usually come out of a debreif of a situation were something could have been beneficial but we didn't have it and someone said they could fix that. Now we do buy many things but w/ welders, carpenters, and do-it-yourselfers aplenty we give them a shot first. An example is a PW can that has been modified w/ quick connect fittings and a varitey of angles and lengths, this tool is used for ledges in a chimney or partition fires were not a lot of water is needed in a very inaccessible place. Also we have guys custom build tool boards for our units.
