EFFORT, Pa. (AP) - A teenage volunteer firefighter was killed
and another injured when a pickup truck crashed into a telephone
pole around the time an arson began nearby.
Police said they were investigating to see if the events on
Monday were connected.
Firefighters were dispatched to the crash scene at 11:45 a.m.,
just minutes before they were called to a fire about a mile from
the wreck, police said.
Daniel Dreisbach, 18, the passenger in the truck, was killed in
the crash. The driver, Ryan J. Campbell, 18, was injured. Both were
members of the Sun Valley Volunteer Fire Company in Chestnuthill
Township and seniors at Pleasant Valley High School.
"We're all in shock right now," fire company President
Jeannine Gender said. "To lose a young gentleman like that is
terrible."
Police said Campbell was driving away from the fire scene when
he went off the side of the road, swerved back, crossed both lanes
and hit the pole on the passenger side.
Dreisbach was pronounced dead at the scene. Campbell was flown
by helicopter to Lehigh Valley Medical Center, Salisbury Township,
for surgery. He was in guarded condition Tuesday, hospital
officials said.
The fire, which destroyed half an unoccupied trailer home, was
an arson, police said.
"The state police are investigating any possible connection
with the fire and the traffic accident due to Dreisbach and
Campbell being members of the Sun Valley Volunteer Fire Company,"
police said in a news release.

I'm in PA George and I haven't heard a thing. Most of the time we receive LODD notices from our county public safety department...We haven't heard a peep on this one.
May we never forget our fallen, worldwide.

We should keep looking. If this is what I think it is, it will be interesting to see if they try to make this a LODD.I'm in PA George and I haven't heard a thing. Most of the time we receive LODD notices from our county public safety department...We haven't heard a peep on this one.

EFFORT, Pa. (AP) — A teenage volunteer firefighter was killed after he and his friend set fire to an abandoned trailer home, then crashed their pickup truck into a pole en route to fight the blaze, officials said.
The 18-year-old who survived the crash, Ryan Campbell, was charged Friday with arson, involuntary manslaughter, and homicide by vehicle, prosecutors said.
Campbell and Daniel Dreisbach, a member of the Sun Valley Volunteer Fire Company, allegedly set the trailer home alight Monday with road flares stolen from the firehouse, prosecutors said.
They then rushed back to the firehouse and drove off in a pickup truck to fight the blaze, only to crash into a pole, said Monroe County District Attorney Mark Pazuhanich.
Dreisbach, 18, was killed immediately. Campbell suffered leg injuries. Both were high school seniors.

The alarm had yet to go through, so theoretically he was not on a call, therefore cannot be considered LODD I would think.
