We are soon, like within a month, going to be moving into a new firehouse. Our first new house in 80 years. And, I was wondering what traditions are generally used to "initiate" or christen a new station. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Chief.
Make sure somebody else is covering your patch.
After ALL the officials and press leave, get very very drunk.
Apart from that, find one of the old Crusties to present a momento to the station, this keeps the Mana (Pride) in the new station from the old one.Psychiatrists state 1 in 4 people has a mental illness.
Look at three of your friends, if they are ok, your it.

I agree with all the rest, call in mutual aid and have one hell of a party.
I have heard of wetdowns before and pushing in the trucks by the members.
Also heard of finding the oldest past member(out of all past members you invite) to drop a bottle of champagne from the hose tower(if you have one) Tradition says that doing this will let all the spirits of past firefighters bless the new station. I think it's a waste of alcohol myself!!!
Good luck

Introduce the mice and bugs yourself, maybe they will be more friendly...
Clutter the basement with ancient equipment that is to important to toss, but hasn't been used in 3 generations...
forget to put toilet paper in the crapper stalls...
Ensure there is 1 (and only 1) burnt out bulb out front...
Back the apperatus into the corner to add some character...
Burn something early in the oven to season...
Rearrange dishes in the cupboard...
Really: Get the old timers together and dedicate a momento to them, the old station, and the new. Have an old fashion wet down.
Then:

Thanks Guys, I appreciate your replys. We probably will have a "wet down" ceramony. And, no doubt, there will be some consumption of "beverages". We also plan to move our memorial for deceased members to the new station. AFF, we will bring some quantity of "well used" equipment I'm sure. Sorry foyt, we don't have a slide pole.
Our neighboring departments will be invited, to the celebration, so, we'll have to have some of the members stay fit and able to respond.
Again, thank all of you for your input. If there are any more suggestions / ideas please post them on this thread.Be Safe
