MADRID, Spain (AP) - More than 100 firefighters toiled for hours
Monday to put out a fire at a Madrid apartment building that left
63 people slightly injured.
The blaze broke out on the third floor of a 14-story building in
the Fuencarral area of the city and raced up wood-paneled
staircases.
Forty of the injured were firefighters treated for smoke
inhalation, dehydration and exhaustion, fire department spokesman
Delmiro Guntinas said.
He said 23 trucks and 104 firefighters were called out to
extinguish the fire. The cause of the blaze was not immediately
known.
