Thumbs up UFA-IAFF Local 94 Needs Your Help-AGAIN

More than 50,000 firefighters from around the world are expected to cram Central Park next week to rally for higher pay for their New York brethren, the Daily News has learned.
The Uniformed Firefighters Association is organizing the demonstration for Friday - the day before a massive memorial service for the 343 FDNY members lost on Sept. 11, 2001, is held at Madison Square Garden.

Union President Steve Cassidy said his members want to call attention to the fact they have been working without a contract for 28 months.

The UFA wants a "substantial raise, similar to what the teachers received," Cassidy said. City teachers won increases of 16% to 22%.

"We want to let the politicians know it is time for them to do the right thing," Cassidy told The News. "Firefighters are sick and tired of being told how special they are - and being paid a salary that does not allow them to feed their families."

Probationary firefighters earn $31,000. Top pay for a firefighter with five years' experience is $49,000.

UFA officials took part in a similar rally in August, when the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association was in contract arbitration. The PBA's pact was later settled with an 11.5% raise spread out over two years.

"The eyes of the world will be on New York City this weekend with so many firefighters here to pay respect to the FDNY. We also want the world to know we've been working without a contract or a raise," said Firefighter Brian Harvey of Engine 236 in East New York, Brooklyn.

"The city is notorious for dragging its feet when it comes to contract negotiations, and we're frustrated that the city never settles a contract within a reasonable amount of time."

I guess the politicians in NYC believe it is acceptable for most firefighters in the city to work a side job just to support his/her family, and then pay for toilet paper and paper towels at the fire house!

What time is the rally? Our train arrives in NYC around 2:00 at Penn Station.

    Well Brother

The situation is even worse here...
You may or may not of heard but, here in the UK we are voting to take industrial action.

A probationary firefighter is earning $26,500 and a 15 year firefighter (subject to qualification after 5 years ).$33,600

Ironic that fellow firefighters across the world are asking for a decent wage.

Good Luck with your fight brothers. Praise don't pay the Bills!!

I will be in New York for the memorial service but will not arrive untill Friday early evening.

    Default UFA-IAFF Local 94 Needs Your Help-AGAIN

FDNY CLICK ON IS IT WORTH IT
Even if your not a true New Yorker you can fill this out. We need all the help we can get. THANKS AS ALWAYS!!!

"The FDNY is Worth It" campaign is a grass roots movement of New Yorkers who believe it is time for our state and local politicians to give New York's Bravest their first raise in four years. Conceived and organized by Susan Berkowitz, "The FDNY Is Worth It" campaign is an entirely volunteer effort. This campaign was not created by the FDNY or its Union. Professionals from advertising and media, and celebrities including James Gandolfini, Denis Leary and Steve Buscemi have generously donated their time to help raise awareness for this important and deserving effort.
