Marine fire units to compete this weekend in Delaware River

(New Castle-AP) -- A competition Saturday will allow marine
firefighters to sharpen their skills and also give the public a
rare glimpse into the world of rescue boats.
The race is planned for a course in the Delaware River, off
Battery park in New Castle.
The Wilmington Fire Department's 21-footer, one of three small
boats used for small-river rescues, is slated to go head-to-head
with other boats in its division at the river race.
Organizers say about a dozen fire departments in Delaware, New
Jersey and Maryland will compete in the event. Two divisions - one
for boats 17 feet and larger and one for those under 17 feet - will
compete in a timed slalom course marked off by buoys in the river.
The competition also includes retrieving a mannequin out of the
water.
