(Jessup-AP) -- Firefighters have rescued a 75-year-old man
trapped in a 65-foot-deep well this morning near Jessup in Anne
Arundel County.
Anne Arundel Fire spokesman Captain Michael Cox says Nelson
Mensch was doing repair work on the well when the rope the family
used to lower him down snapped.
Cox says he fell five to ten feet to the bottom of the well,
suffering leg injuries. He has been transported to the University
of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.
Rescuers first put a tube into the hole to supply fresh air,
then began a winching operation. A rescuer was lowered down to
assess the man's injuries before bringing him back up with a rope
and pulley system. (wbal)
