Truck lands on two cars

WORCESTER (AP) -- A tanker truck skidded off a highway ramp yesterday morning and dropped some 25 feet on top of two vehicles below, seriously injuring the two drivers, police said.

Yasmin Nizamani, the 30-year-old female driver of a Toyota sport utility vehicle and Robert Daniels, the 26-year-old male driver of a Lincoln Continental were taken to the UMass Memorial Health Care University Campus, where they were being treated late Tuesday, a nursing supervisor said.

Late yesterday afternoon, hospital officials said they planned to admit both Nizamani and Daniels.

Daniels was listed in fair condition. Nizamani's condition was not immediately available.

The truck driver, Jose Adorno, 46, of Worcester, was treated for minor injuries.

State police said the truck, which was carrying plastic pellets, dropped from the highway ramp at about 11:40 a.m. The ramp runs from West Boylston Street to Interstates 290 and 190. The tanker landed on Gold Star Boulevard, also known as Route 12.

The cause of the accident was under investigation and charges had not been filed as of late yesterday afternoon, said state police Sgt. Ronald Seiberg.
