The following is excerpted from the Providence Journal:
Gerald Nadeau, a District Chief and a 25 yr. veteran of the Fall River Fire Dept. died on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Rhode Island Hospital from acute respiratory distress syndrome. According to FRFD Chief Edward Dawson, DC Nadeau was in good health up until last month, after a large fire on Orange St. in the city. There is also a possibility that he may have had effects from mitigating a HazMat incident in Whitman Ma. while operating as a technician for the Massachusetts State HazMat Response Team. The dept. is awaiting autopsy and toxicology reports, but is treating this as a LODD.
According to Chief Dawson, DC Nadeau had been feeling ill since after the Orange St. Fire and checked himself into Charleton Memorial Hospital in Fall River after leaving work on Oct. 5. He was transferred to Rhode Island Hospital as his condition worsened.
He had joined FRFD in 1977 and and had promoted to District Chief in 1993 serving from C-2 on Bedford St.
May he rest in peace and God bless his wife and children.

Possible LODD in Fall River Mass."I have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a fireman. The position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we know the work which a fireman has to do believe that his is a noble calling."
