NEW YORK (AP) - Five people, including three firefighters, were
injured early Sunday when a fire broke out in a convenience store
below a Brooklyn apartment building, authorities said.
The two-alarm blaze was reported just after midnight inside a
building in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section, said James Maguire, a
fire department spokesman. The fire was put out less than an hour
later, he said.
Two firefighters suffered minor neck and back injuries, Maguire
said. The injuries of the third firefighter and two other victims
were not known.
All five were taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition,
Maguire said. A Bellevue spokesman could not immediately be reached
for comment.
The cause was under investigation.
