NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Starkville, Miss., firefighter has died
from injuries sustained in a weekend attack at a Louisiana bar.
Rusty Dawkins, 40, a battalion chief in Starkville, died Monday
at a New Orleans hospital.
Police said Dawkins never regained consciousness after
Saturday's attack outside The Harbor Lights Bar in Cocodrie, La.
Three people have been charged with second-degree battery in the
case, and authorities said those charges will likely be upgraded.
The men charged are Thomas Charles Hoffele, 19, from Houma;
Calvin Vergin Jr., 25, of Chauvin; and Nicholas Paul Pierron, 21,
from Houma.
The three were being held Tuesday at the Terrebone Parish jail
on $300,000 bond each.
Dawkins was in Louisiana on a fishing trip with another
Starkville Fire Department officer and a friend.
