FDNY Firefighter burned
Thoughts and prayers...everyone, please!
NEW YORK (AP) - A veteran Queens firefighter was badly burned in
a house fire Thursday afternoon.
Lt. Stephen W. Halliday, a firefighter for 15 years, was at
Nassau University Medical Center in critical condition with burns
to his hands, face and shoulders, hospital and fire department
officials said Thursday evening. No one else was injured.
The firefighter had called out a mayday as he fought a two-alarm
blaze in a two-story brick building, said Firefighter Joseph
Cestari, a department spokesman. The circumstances of the incident
remained unclear Thursday evening, Cestari said.
The fire in the building's basement and first floor was brought
under control Thursday afternoon.
