Rest in peace Ralph...you will be missed!
THOMASTON, Conn. (AP) - The co-owner of a bait and tackle shop
was killed when a compressed air container exploded while he was
filling a paintball gun, the Waterbury Republican-American reported
Wednesday.
Ralph Sanzeri Jr., 31, was a local firefighter and leader of the
town's rescue dive team. He co-owned Sanzeri's Locks Bait & Tackle
on South Main Street with his father.
Police said the accident happened at the shop at about 12:30
p.m. Monday.
Ralph Sanzeri Sr. said his son had filled hundreds of compressed
air containers before without any problems, but was using new
equipment on Monday.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was
investigating.
The chief medical examiner's office ruled Sanzeri's death an
accident, saying he died of multiple blunt traumatic injuries.
A 10-year veteran of the Thomaston Volunteer Fire Department,
Sanzeri was remembered by friends and family Tuesday as a loving
husband, an outdoorsman and the heart and soul of the area's most
prestigious underwater recovery unit.
Sanzeri is survived by his parents, wife and brother. Funeral
services had not yet been finalized.
