Blaze prompts village to declare state of emergency
(Seneca Falls-AP) -- A fire burning thousands of tires at a
recycling plant prompted the village of Seneca Falls to declare a
state of emergency.
More than 100 firefighters from four counties battled the blaze
Saturday for seven hours at Tire Solutions International in the
village 45 miles southeast of Rochester.
It burned or melted many of the 5-thousand tires in a
100-by-100-yard pile. No injuries were reported.
The village of 75-hundred people was under a state of emergency
for about seven hours, as thick clouds of black smoke hovered above
it.
The American Red Cross set up an evacuation center at a nearby
school, but no evacuation was necessary.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
