After extensive efforts of looking through the internet and other means, I am still at a loss in regards to finding information regarding the differences (operationally speaking) between private HazMat Teams and public. I happen to be an officer in two departments. Primary is a private combination department Fire/HazMat/Ems department with five paid personnel and 30 volunteers and the other is a rural combination public fire department. I have the benifet of seeing operationally both sides. What is the feel in the "real world"? Can a private department be as good and professional as public? On average, are private teams more likely to take risks? Or, are they more apt to get the job done? Long ago, I learned to judge teams and/or groups by not their name, but by the continuity of their service(s).
