    Arrow The AP story

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - Authorities were holding a man accused
of setting a fire that resulted in a firefighter's death.
Bryan Layton III, 32, was scheduled to be arraigned on murder
and arson charges Wednesday morning in a Vigo County court, Terre
    Haute television station WTWO reported.
Terre Haute police and an agent with the federal Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms arrested Layton Tuesday evening on a
warrant charging him with the murder of Fire Capt. Ralph Stott.
Stott was killed Sept. 30 when a roof collapsed on several
firefighters after an explosion at Russell's Garage and Body auto
shop on the city's northeast side. He had been with the department
    for more than 20 years.
Two other firefighters also were injured. Layton also was
charged in the warrant with two counts of arson resulting in
    serious bodily injury.

    Post Rest in Peace Ralph...

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A second man has been charged with
murder and arson in a fire that killed one firefighter and injured
    two others.
Scott D. Lesko, 28, of Terre Haute was being held Tuesday in
Vigo County Jail pending an initial hearing in Vigo County Superior
    Court.
Authorities said Lesko set fire to Russell's Garage and Body
auto shop in September 2002, destroying the Terre Haute business.
Lesko ran the day-to-day operations at the garage, which was owned
    by Larry Russell.
Fire Capt. Ralph Stott was killed and two other firefighters
were injured when the roof collapsed after an explosion at the
shop. Stott had been with the department for more than 20 years.
Byron Layton III, a mechanic at the shop, initially was charged
with Stott's murder but pleaded guilty last month to lesser charges
under an agreement with prosecutors. He is scheduled to be
sentenced Friday on charges of aiding, inducing or causing three
offenses of arson resulting in bodily injury.
Prosecutors allege that Lesko used gasoline to set fire to the
garage after Layton twice tried and failed using other methods.
Lesko owed money to the building's owner, who also allegedly had
said he intended to fire Layton, according to a probable cause
affadavit. Russell also allegedly had confronted Lesko concerning
    discrepancies in the financial records.
