Fire Safety Investigation Exposes Problems For Children
Young Children Have Hard Time Hearing Alarms

An 8-month investigation exposes a problem with smoke detectors waking up younger children.

600 children, age 14 and under, die in house fires every year in this country. That is 11 children a week.

Children are taught at an early age what to do if a smoke alarm sounds while they are asleep. However, there is something children and their parents are not aware of. A pediatric sleep specialist says smoke detectors can be relied on to wake up adults and older kids but not young children.
