St. Petersburg Florida (Pinellas County)

Early yesterday afternoon employees from a Ford Dealership noticed the smoke rising from the roof of a Dodge Dealership across the street in St. Petersburg. A prompt call to 911 brought the St. Petersburg Fire Department who could see the smoke from several miles away at their HQ Station.

The 3-Alarm Fire destroyed the roof to a portion of the building. Fire Officials believe the fire may have been started as a sealant that was being applied to a new rubber mat roof by workers ignited and resulted in a flash fire. The thick black smoke billowed into the air and could be seen for miles as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

Although the roof was heavily damaged and water damage was extensive, the dealership promised to be open for business today.

There were no firefighter injuries but two workers were transported to local hospitals and treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation.
