The tapes recovered from building 5's repeater were released last week. Has anyone found a site where the recordings can be downloaded. All I have found, so far, are RealPlayer versions, which I cannot save.
Any help would be great.

You can probably go into the firehouse web site news archives and click on the links. I got it off the New York Times link. I tried to download it but all I got was the link and set it up in my documents file. When I tried to set it up to listen to it again and see if I could download it again, the link would not work. If you to into the NYTimes, you have to be a member, but it's free. You just sign up and you have access to their archives and can even get a list of articles on terrorism and other subjects automaticly e-mailed to you.

Artie, where did you find those real audio recordings?
If it was a streaming real audio file you were listening to, you can probably download the actual file to your hard drive. Usually with streaming real audio, you click on a .ram file. This file is actually only a text file that tells Real Player where to stream the file from. If you find out the actual file, you can download it to your computer. It may or may not sound right after you download it though.IACOJ Agitator

Those tapes do nothing less then re-affirm the fact that the HIGHEST level of heroism was displayed on that day.

Webteam,
But is this the entire file or is it a condensed version? I thought there was more radio communication than this. Just clarifying.

We transcribed and copied everything that was likely of interest to everyone. There is little else besides those recordings that would be of significance really. We did convert a bit more than the NY Times did from the full MP3 we received from the PAPD, but the rest was all either unintelligable or unrelated/no chatter. At the beginning there is some dispatch chatter thats not tied to the WTC and other conversation.
Again, this is just what was on the file released by the PAPD that was the focus of the NY Times piece and received the most recent media attention. It is certainly not all the radio communication of the day. Its mostly communication between Two Battalion Chiefs, their aides and Ladder 15 in the South Tower prior to the collapse. Virtually everyone heard on the tapes lost their lives and as the recordings indicate, they certainly were going above and beyond to make it to the higher floors and helping guide the victims down.
