a 3:00 am accident closed east independance blvd in both directions for a hour. a drunk driver struck a power pole and hit 4 parked cars in a motel parking lot. injuries to the driver were minor. the power pole hels lines that crossed independance blvd. a fire in the transformer caused some probles. duke power shut down power to the area. road reopened except for one lane by morning rush hour. independance blvd. is the city's main east west road and is also the busiest in the city.

statesvills nc motorcycle hits school bus. a dirt bike struck a school bus and went under the bus. no injuries to anyone on the bus. driver of dirt bike flown to carolinas medical center in critical condition.
