finally, a rescue friendly vehicle?
here is a pic of the new honda element vehicle. it features suicide doors for the back seat. i've never ran on a mvc with a vehicle with these type of doors before. to those that have, does this make it easier to extricate patients out or does it hamper the situation?NREMT-P\ Reserve Volunteer Firefighter\Reserve Police Officer

I've never run an MVC on anything with the suicide doors either, however I would guess that working these doors wouldn't be that much different than the PU's with 3rd doors.
I'd also like to see some up close shots of the latching system but again I'm guessing that it also works like the PU 3rd door.
Rear door as both top & bottom latch & front door latches into rear.
As far as extricating Pt's. - it would probably be easier IF the thing didn't crumple on impact. I searched for any crash test pictures / video but couldn't find anything on the web yet.
Bottom line - until shown data to the contrary, I figure these will be no different than any other 3rd door. (It will also suffer from the same problems other 3rd door vehicles have.Take Care - Stay Safe - God Bless

Firstly, I have to agree with you all so far, about the doors. I suspect that the latch/lock mechanisms are the same as any of the P/U's with the 3rd door on them.
Secondly, that has got to be one of the MOSTLY UGLY vehicles I have seen in a long time!!!!If you don't do it RIGHT today, when will you have time to do it over? (Hall of Fame basketball player/coach John Wooden)
