Alaska is predominantly covered by volunteer agencies. The only three entirely career FD departments (civilian) that I can think of are Anchorage, Kenai, and City of Fairbanks. There are also many combination departments as well.

Feel free to contact me off forum and I can answer further questions and point you in some directions.

However, I must follow-up to one of your questions relating to tourists being the major cause of MVCs in Alaska.... are you giving us a heads up for 2008 when you visit??

    Talking Tourist.....too danged funny!

    Okay, that was tooo FUNNY!!!

The reason I mentioned that is I live in rural area in northern arizona (Elevation 6,845ft) and I'm about 35 minutes from the Grand Canyon. We get tourists here from all over the world and a the majority of our MVA's are tourists comming from either a different country (Asia, Europe, ect) and from the big cities (Phoenix, Los Angeles, ect.).

    Thanks for the info!
