Crikey Kiwi you are on the ball - I didn't even notice it! 10/10 for observation!
I guess we can't entirely blame them though - it can be a bit difficult copying the spelling off something when you are reading it upside down

Just back from QLD and NSW- I have to say I had a great time and drank plenty of Toohey's and XXXX. My interaction with the firies (both urban and Rurals, and SES and VRA also) was great and I can't wait to go back again, although maybe to the other side of the Island.
A funny story- about thirty minutes into my arrival in Warwick, I said aloud, "Wow, I'm in THE OUTBACK". Mind you, I grew up in Philadelphia, PA and never saw a goat until I was 21. My host motioned me into the kitchen and rolled out a map of Oz and pointed at Brisbane and said, "THIS is Brisbane". Then she moved her finger about an inch inland, crossing the Great Dividing Range, and said "THIS is Warwick." Then she motioned at the rest of the large map and said- "THAT is the Outback."
Needless to say, I had a whole new appreciation for the vastness of Australia. Anyway, hope you all get some rain. I'll keep in touch.Michael "Mick" Mayers

G'day Mick,
Glad you had a great time out here in this wide, brown land.
Did you get a chance to have a look at the Compartment Fire Behaviour Training at the QFRS training facility?
Yep, the Outback is certainly a big and (mostly) empty space, that is for sure, all the specifications for it are huge except for the human population. It just keeps on going for ever. Someone cam up with an intersting statistic a while ago - apparently you can fit 37 U.S. States in the Outback!
We're still waiting for that rain, and quite frankly with the forecast for the next seven days, I don't think it's going to arrive quickly enough as the forecast is looking very bad.Busy polishing the stacked tips on the deckgun of I.A.C.O.J. Engine#1

If you come down to South Australia you will find that we are a bit more refined than the eastern states, after all we were one of the only states that wasn't founded as a penal colony. By the way come down here and enjoy a nice cool Coopers Pale Ale, liquid of the gods !(we also fight fires better but thats another story!)
Just taking the mickey!

I'm not even sure where to start answering that post

It would be interesting though to have a thread where we compared the different fire services in Australia and New Kiwiland, and their approach to doing thingsBusy polishing the stacked tips on the deckgun of I.A.C.O.J. Engine#1

Funny- I didn't even see the post about XXXX. I had heard it's because Queenslanders couldn't spell beer (specifically). Great bunch though.
I did get to go into the compartment fire scenario at Whyte Island. Great facility and everyone there was hospitable and knowledgable.Michael "Mick" Mayers
