Investigation continues into blaze at church

TALLAHASSEE A fire that damaged the Church of God on South Monroe Street was still under investigation Thursday. Firefighters arrived at the blaze about 8:45p.m. Wednesday and found heavy fire coming from a side door, according to Division Chief Brian Hunter of the Tallahassee Fire Department. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters searched the smoky interior but found no one. A TFD arson investigator and the state Fire Marshal's Office assisted in the investigation. Fire damage was limited to the storage room area, but the rest of the large wooden church received extensive smoke damage. Hunter estimated the damage at $50,000.
