4 fires damage buildings in Starke area

December 05, 2002

Four structure fires within five days kept a number of fire departments busy over the Thanksgiving holidays.
On Nov. 24, at 2:27 a.m., the Starke Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to a mobile home fire on SE 134th Street (near Old Glory Feeds). According to the report filed by SFD, the structure was three-quarters involved in fire by the time the trucks arrived. One woman received burns in the fire and was transported to Shands at Starke. Her name was not available as of press time.

Also responding to the fire were the Theressa, Hampton and Lawtey volunteer fire departments.

On Nov. 28, at 10:30 p.m., SFD was dispatched to a fire in a frame house on the corner of Water and Washington streets in Starke. The report said the fire was pretty much restricted to one room and the attic. The fire marshal is currently investigating the blaze, but no report was available as of press time.

Responding were SFD and the Lawtey and Heilbron Springs VFDs.

On Nov. 29, at 8:19 p.m., SFD was dispatched to a home fire on Pinebreeze Drive, off Colley Road in Starke. The house was three-quarters involved in fire when the units arrived. Theressa VFD also responded.

SFD left that fire at midnight and responded to a report of smoke in the Wendy's hamburger restaurant on US-301 in Starke. Smoke was light, but was distributed throughout the restaurant. The report said the fire was located in the heating ductwork. Part of the ductwork was removed and the fire was extinguished about 3 a.m.
