A 52-year-old man died early Saturday after his mobile home caught fire and he was trapped inside.
The man who shared the trailer in the Lakeside Mobile Home Park just outside of West Palm Beach, south of Okeechobee Boulevard and west of Interstate 95, escaped unharmed, Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue officials said.
"The fire pretty much destroyed the entire mobile home," said fire-rescue spokesman Steve Delai. "It looked like everything's gone."
Even though crime scene investigators photographed what was left of the trailer at 1831 Alison Drive and officials from the sheriff's homicide unit were called, the source of the 1:50 a.m. fire appears to be accidental, possibly careless smoking, said Paul Miller, a spokesman for the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Officials were still investigating Saturday night.
"There's nothing to indicate any foul play at this point," Miller said.
Investigators believe the man who died is Scott Wayne Kennedy, who lived in the unit, Miller said. But because most of his body was burned, they can't positively identify him until the medical examiner investigates.
His roommate who escaped the fire, Mark Callison, 31, moved in a few weeks ago, officials said.
