Man convicted of stealing 9-11 funds sentenced on related charge
GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) - A man serving 15 years in prison for
stealing donation money from the widow of a New York City
firefighter killed in last year's terrorist attacks was sentenced
to one to three years in prison on a related charge in New York
City.
Brian Lynch, 28, who is serving the maximum sentence at the
Downstate Correctional Facility in Fishkill, was sentenced in
Manhattan Thursday, Orange County prosecutors said.
Lynch was convicted of burglary and grand larceny charges in
Orange County Court in August for stealing $8,000 in donated funds
from Heloiza Asaro, whose husband, Carl, died in the World Trade
Center.
In October 2001, authorities said Lynch went to New York City
and collected monetary damages from the American Red Cross. Lynch
told officials he was Carl Asaro's cousin and that he also worked
for Cantor Fitzgerald.
Lynch pleaded guilty to first-degree offering a false instrument
for filing. His sentence in Manhattan was to run concurrently with
his other prison term.
