Pregnant mother dies after car crash, baby delivered,survives

An pregnant woman killed in a car crash was rushed to a hospital where doctors successfully delivered her baby daughter, police said Monday.

The infant was in critical condition Monday a day after being delivered at Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to Miami-Dade police and a spokeswoman for the hospital.

An autopsy was being performed to determine the exact cause of death for Jessica OCampo, 25, who was eight months pregnant.

OCampo died Sunday after losing control of her sport utility vehicle and hitting a parked truck, police said.

Authorities were investigating the cause of the crash, which took place in the Westchester neighborhood southwest of Miami. Police said OCampo's SUV ended up on its side.

The woman's 9-year-old daughter was riding in the front passenger seat and was being treated for serious injuries, police said. Officials at Jackson Memorial said they only had the baby girl in their records.

There was no answer late Monday to calls seeking information on the 9-year-old to a Miami telephone listing for a Jessica Ocampo.
